Turning Points

Hillary Rodham Clinton possesses many important qualities of leadership. She is dedicated, determined, creative, influential, and smart. After reading her book, Living History, I am left with the overwhelming sense that she has real vision. She is able to understand the needs of people and how to utilize important resources to effectively help them. She also has a great sense of herself. She understands her strengths and weaknesses through trials and experiences that tested her character.

She has faced numerous turning points in her life. I was especially moved by the death of her father and the scandal that threatened her marriage. To me, these were true tests of her character because they caused her to reflect on everything that she was about and then make decisions that she knew everyone would judge. She also was transformed by the birth of her daughter and elated at her senate win for New York State. Finally, her bid for the presidential nomination will earn her a place in the hearts of many Americans and the history books.

I don't feel that Hillary Clinton has faced failure, so much as she has faced disappointments. Even her bid for the presidency, while I am sure it is perceived as a failure by some, is still a victory for many and she did receive President Obama's nomination for Secretary of State because of her position in that election race. Other scandals that she endured, like Whitewater and the Impeachment Process of President Clinton, served to strengthen her resolve and promote her need to do more for others. It is this idea of caring for people that permeates the chapters of her book as you turn the pages reliving that history from such a personal perspective. I can't wait to see what happens next.

  2. Hi Christine,

I like the way that you phrased her life as facing disappointments versus facing failure. This is certainly true from what I know and moreso from what you have shared. I believe that her vision and her ability to reflect helped her in dealing with many of the difficult times in her life. The ability to look forward can certainly help any of us overcome obstacles in our path.

As I read your posts I came to believe that she is empathetic. The trials and tribulations that she has faced and overcome have not been in isolation. She appears to have the ability to understand how other people feel and what they need. Through this lens she is truly a leader who works with people and for people. She does appear to have strong moral purpose and many of the qualities of a promoter and also an analyzer. This is simply my opinion.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  3. Hi Christine,

I too, greatly admire Hillary Clinton for the way she was able to overcome some of the difficult events in her life. It amazes me the way she is able to persevere through all that she has gone through so far and still maintain such a strong focus on both her family and career. You mention her bid for the Presidential Candidacy and how, although she didn’t will the election, she has broken through barriers and continues to do so as her new position as Secretary of State. I’m glad you chose her to discuss for this assignment because I am curious to read more about her and think she is an excellent choice to profile as a great leader.

    Thanks,
    Jenn

  4. Christine,
Hillary Clinton displays many qualities of leadership. Understanding strengths and weaknesses are import leadership qualities that help better relationships with others. It is evident that Clinton’s vision focuses on people. According to Donald Trump, obstacles are opportunities in disguise. I believe Clinton rose above her “disappointments” and discovered opportunities.
